My Story
Who is Kevin Carroll?
Hi everyone! Kevin Carroll here. Helping people improve their well-being is my calling. Please read my story below to get to know me a little better. Here we go…
The Early Years
I was born in Bangor, Maine, on Dow Air Force base while my Dad was flying an interception mission for the U.S. Air Force somewhere in the North Atlantic. Upon his retirement, he moved my two brothers, sister, and me to Toledo, Ohio, where I grew up. My teenage years were filled with our “Carroll Brothers Lawn Mowing” business and lots of athletics.
College Years
I attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, to study accounting and play Division I football. Then I transferred to Bowling Green State University. It was after my sophomore year working as a lifeguard at a Toledo area water quarry that I met, dated, and wanted to marry a beautiful girl, Julie (more on Julie below).
Financial Services Industry
Upon graduating from college (1987) I went off to Wall Street in New York City, culminating in working on the New York Stock Exchange. I lived in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and I’ll never forget passing the Statue of Liberty twice a day on the small ferry boat that took me to and from Wall Street. This is how I started my career in the financial services industry and a unique experience to draw from to help others improve their financial well-being.
Children Years
After 3 years in the New York and New Jersey area, my wife and I moved back to Toledo to start a family. We had three wonderful children. This is when I became a financial advisor helping others achieve their retirement goals. After my wife and I divorced, I moved to Culver, Indiana (90 miles Southeast of Chicago) to support my sons’ matriculation at Culver Military Academy, a college prep boarding school. While in Culver, I started Culver Portfolio Management.
Placement Loop
It has always been important to me to improve people’s financial well-being. During my time in Culver, I hypothesized that the systems, processes, and business models that scaled the placement of investment capital at right-fit could be adapted to scale the placement of human capital at the right fit. So, I started a company called Placement Loop to place workers in a job that is right for them and improve how they pursue well-being.
North Carolina
In the summer of 2018, after 33 years, Julie, that beautiful girl I dated and wanted to marry back in 1985, contacted me. At that time, I was looking to move Placement Loop to a city with a strong entrepreneurial environment and take it to the next level. After visiting Raleigh and several “startup spaces,” I knew North Carolina was a good fit for Placement Loop to develop and grow.
Deja Vu All Over Again
In early September 2018, as Hurricane Florence was heading for “Down East,” I drove to North Carolina to help Julie clean up. It was like lightning struck…deja vu…as if we had never stopped dating 33 years earlier. Best friends and in love. I have not left Julie’s side since we reconnected, and now I can proudly call her my wife!
Excitingly, Julie founded Life Stage Planning and is helping people improve their financial well-being as an insurance advisor focusing on healthcare products and services.
Fun Facts
In the past, I worked hard and played hard. These days, I just work hard. I love seeing my children, parents, siblings, and other relatives during visits. I enjoy food too much and I might enjoy a good cigar once in a while. I love seafood. I love the Ohio State Buckeye Football Program...GO BUCKS!
I love getting to know the culture of “The South”, the great State of North Carolina, and especially “Down East,” where Julie’s family has a place in Atlantic. There is hardly a day that goes by that I don't think of the sacrifices made by our veterans to protect our country's declared independence and our right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
